Vol. 305 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cobh Ambulance Service.

18.

asked the Minister for Health the number of occasions in the last 12 months that an ambulance was called to Cobh Island, County Cork; the average time taken before the ambulance reached Cobh; and if he will take steps to ensure that a separate ambulance will be stationed in the town of Cobh.

I am informed by the Southern Health Board that an ambulance was called to Cobh Island on 151 occasions in the year ended 31 March 1978—57 of these calls were urgent. The average time between receipt of a request for an ambulance and the arrival of the ambulance at Cobh was 26 minutes. The stationing of an ambulance at Cobh is primarily a matter for the Southern Health Board. I am informed by the board that they are satisfied that the Cobh area is adequately served by the ambulances based at Midletown and at St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork.
