Vol. 305 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Transport for Mentally Handicapped.

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make free public transport facilities available in all circumstances to mentally handicapped persons.

Free travel is available to mentally handicapped persons who are in receipt of disabled person's maintenance allowance and where these persons are undergoing rehabilitation or training at Training Centres, Community Workshops or Sheltered Workshops they are not excluded from peak hour travel. The position of mentally handicapped persons generally in relation to this scheme is under examination at present by my Department.
