asked the Minister for Health in respect of each of the years 1965, 1970, 1975 and 1976, the amount made available to the health services by the Irish Hospital Sweepstakes; and the figure in each year as a percentage of total public expenditure on health in the year in question.

Receipts from the Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes in the years 1965, 1970, 1975 and 1976 were £2,825,000, £3,031,000, £2,477,000 and £2,369,000, respectively. Expressed as a percentage of total capital and non-capital expenditure on the health services in those years, the figures represent 7.8 per cent, 4 per cent, 1 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.
