On 21 March 1978 I sanctioned borrowing by Kerry County Council to the extent of £37,500 to enable them to contribute towards the cost of the scheme. Borrowing of £17,500 had been sanctioned for the purpose in 1974 but was not taken up as the scheme did not proceed at that time. My understanding is that 75 per cent of the cost of the work was to be met by the Department of Fisheries and the scheme was to be carried out by the Office of Public Works. Accordingly, it will be appreciated that approval of the scheme was not a matter for my Department.
