asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the steps, if any, he is taking to promote or locate industries in (a) Clonmel, (b) Carrick-on-Suir, (c) Tipper-ary town, (d) Cashel, (e) Cahir and (f) Fethard, County Tipperary.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Industries.
The IDA are actively pursuing the possibilities for further industrial development in each of the towns mentioned. Negotiations are in progress with a number of companies concerning the possibility both of the establishment of further new projects in South Tipperary and the expansion of a number of existing industries. I am not in a position to furnish details at this stage.
Two large projects already in operation—one near Carrick-on-Suir and the other in Tipperary town—are between them expected to provide employment for a further 400 persons by 1980. As the Deputy will be aware, I recently announced that the IDA had approved grant assistance for a project which will establish later this year in Clonmel and will employ 100 workers in the first year.
