Vol. 305 No. 11

Written Answers. - Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus have been heavily involved in projects in what could in many cases be termed developing countries over the years in question. These projects are of a commercial nature involving the sale of services to these countries for a profit. The services included management contracts, training in various aspects, aircraft and component maintenance and overhaul, aircraft leasing, personnel secondment, and so on.
For commercial reasons it is considered by the Minister for Tourism and Transport that it would not be appropriate to reveal publicly details of these activities. However, the main features of the programme include:
1. Algeria. A maintenance management contract with Air Algerie and subsequently component overhaul and training including B737 simulator time.
2. Cameroons. Aircraft leasing and subsequently B737 component overhaul.
3. Egypt. Aircraft leasing, component overhaul, computer time leasing (Egyptair).
4. Libya. Training at Dublin for Libyan Arab Airline staff.
5. Morocco. Secondment of engineers, training and aircraft maintenance plus handling services in the US for Royal Air Moroc.
6. Nigeria. Secondment of engineers plus aircraft maintenance.
7. Sudan. Component overhaul, training and simulator work.
8. Zaire. Aircraft leasing, workshop development and component overhaul.
9. Zambia. A comprehensive contract including aircraft leasing, management and other training, secondment of staff.
10. Kenya, similar to Zambia.
In addition smaller projects are under way in Bahamas, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Brunei and others.
