Vol. 306 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sheep Subsidies.

236.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that some previous recipients of hogget and sheep subsidies in South Tipperary have been refused such subsidies this year; the number of such refusals; and the main headings under which they were refused.

Seven flockowners in the Slievenamon area of South Tipperary who were paid grants under the EEC scheme of headage payments on mountain lambs and hogget ewes in 1975 and 1976 were found in 1977 to be ineligible for grants on their mountain sheep because they had not satisfied my Department that: (1) they possessed mountain grazings in a designated disadvantaged area and that (2) their mountain sheep were substantially maintained on such grazings. All seven have, however, been paid grants at the appropriate lowland rate on all their eligible hogget ewes.
