Vol. 306 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Second Level Schools.

13.

asked the Minister for Education if an estimate has been made by his Department of the additional school places that will be required for second level students in the Chapelizod, Palmerstown, Lucan and Leixlip areas for the school years commencing September 1978, September 1979 and September 1980; and the steps he proposes to take to provide these extra places.

Estimates have been made of the additional places required in each of the areas mentioned. The position in each case is also discussed regularly with the relevant educational authorities, and is examined by the Advisory Council on Post Primary accommodation for the Greater Dublin area.

My Department have sanctioned the provision of new schools in Leixlip, 800 places; Lucan, 700 places; and Palmerstown, 550 places. The Leixlip school is planned to open in September 1980. The other two schools will be made available sometime later as required. It is not feasible to decide on a date at this stage.

Can the Minister give any indication if a site has been obtained for the school in Palmerstown and what type of school it is envisaged will be provided there?

As the Deputy possibly knows, being a member of Dublin County Council, a site has been agreed with the county council. No decision on the size or type of school has been taken.

Questions Nos. 14 to 17, inclusive, are for written reply.
