Vol. 306 No. 6

Written Answers. - Secondary Teacher Registration.

14.

asked the Minister for Education if he will allow qualified teachers from other countries whose subject or subjects do not require knowledge of the Irish language to become registered; and, if not, why.

The statutory regulations of the Registration Council for Secondary Teachers prescribe that an applicant for registration must produce evidence of having a competent knowledge of the Irish language.

The regulations do not provide for any exceptions from that requirement, and I have no power to authorise exceptions.
