Vol. 306 No. 7

Written Answers. - Closure of County Cork Firm.

137.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if his Department will take steps to prevent the closure of Newmarket Fashions, County Cork, on 30 June 1978; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that for various reasons, principally marketing problems and consistently poor trading results, the management of Newmarket Fashions Ltd. have decided to close the factory as from 30 June 1978. The Industrial Development Authority have been in touch with the parent company of Newmarket Fashions Ltd., and it is understood that that company will consider the possibility of utilising the factory to manufacture a different range of products. Failing that, the IDA will endeavour to secure a take-over of the factory by other interests as a going concern.
