Vol. 306 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Attendance Act.

141.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions in Bray, County Wicklow, for breaches of the School Attendance Act, 1926, in respect of each of the years 1975, 1976 and 1977.

142.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied that the strength of the Garda force in Bray, County Wicklow, is adequate to ensure the provision of an appropriate school attendance service; the number of gardaí attached to the station; and the number of those who undertake duties under the School Attendance Act, 1926.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 141 and 142 together.

There have been no prosecutions for breaches of the School Attendance Act, 1926, in Bray, County Wicklow, for the three years mentioned in the question.

The strength of Bray Garda Station is 41 and the Garda authorities report that, having regard to overall demands on Garda resources, this is the maximum allocation that can be provided at present. The police needs of the area will, however, be further considered according as additional manpower becomes available for assignment.

It would be contrary to established practice to give details of the allocation of gardaí to any particular type of duty.
