asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to be in a position to accede to the request from Naas Urban Council for an allocation of finance for the erection of 56 council houses at Ballycane, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will expedite the matter, since the council already has a number of applications for these houses in excess of the number of houses to be provided.

I understand that the National Building Agency are preparing working drawings for a further stage of the Ballycane housing project, comprising 28 houses and 43 private sites, which they hope to advertise for tender in July next. I will consider making a capital allocation to Naas Urban District Council to meet expenditure on the scheme when the agency are ready to accept a tender and to have work on it commenced.
