Vol. 306 No. 10

Written Answers. - Agricultural Workers Legislation.

117.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is intended to implement the remainder of the minority report of the Commission on Workmen's Compensation, 1962, in relation to the provision of protective legislation for the benefit of agricultural workers.

Presumably the Deputy is referring to the recommendations concerning the prevention of accidents and the safety of agricultural workers.

The introduction of a control system on the use of agrochemicals is under consideration at present. Otherwise, the promotion of farm safety will continue to be actively pursued by my Department through educational and advisory methods.

In regard to the recommendation that agricultural workers should be represented on the Poisons Council established under the Poisons Act, 1961, this Act does not provide for the nomination by the Minister for Agriculture of a representative of agricultural workers on the council.
