Vol. 306 No. 10

Written Answers. - School Transport.

132.

asked the Minister for Education why school transport has not been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly, who applied two months ago.

The child in question resides in the area of Esker NS which was closed and amalgamated with Daingean NS. She is, therefore, eligible for free transport to that school. It is understood, however, that she is attending Edenderry NS and pending further inquiries in the matter, it has been agreed to provide free transport to Edenderry for this child until the closing of the school for the summer holidays this year.

133.

asked the Minister for Education if he will now arrange to have transport sanctioned for children to Rockchapel national school, County Cork, as requested some time ago.

The transport service from the Milleen area to Rockchapel national school was withdrawn on the closing of the school for the Christmas holidays in 1976 as the number of children availing of the service had fallen below the minimum number required for the maintenance of the service under the terms of the scheme. An application to reintroduce the service has been received and is under consideration.
