8.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if any Government attitude was conveyed by him to the management, unions, chairman or mediators during or after the negotiations of the Aer Lingus productivity settlement; and if he will now state these views.

, Dublin South-Central): The State bodies under my aegis including Aer Lingus are, since 1975, aware of the Government attitude to pay negotiations, namely, that in the public sector there should be full compliance with the terms of National Agreements and with Government pay policy.

: May I ask the Minister for State if the terms of the particular settlement were conveyed to the Government prior to their being formally agreed?

(Dublin South-Central): Aer Lingus have full knowledge of Government policy. Naturally, there were discussions on and off during the negotiations. Aer Lingus are fully aware of what are the guidelines and it was taken that they complied with them.

: May I ask the Minister for State if the Government were satisfied that the particular agreement reached was in accordance with the productivity and the pay guidelines of the Government at this point in time?

(Dublin South-Central): The Government did not disagree with the agreement.
