Vol. 307 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Curragh Military Hospital Patient .

31.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is satisfied that a person (name supplied) at present in the Curragh Military Hospital, is receiving all the care that is required to ensure his full recovery from his recent serious operations.

32.

asked the Minister for Defence if a person (name supplied) was operated on in the Curragh Military Hospital in March of this year; if he has satisfied himself as to the reasons why this person suffered a severe haemorrhage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Question Nos. 31 and 32 together. I am satisfied that the person named is receiving all the medical care necessary for the treatment of his condition in the general military hospital, Curragh Camp. It is not the practice to furnish details of the medical condition of prisoners.

: Is the Minister satisfied that there is no danger to this man's life by being kept at the Curragh Military Hospital?

: I am satisfied that everything possible is being done for this prisoner and that everything that can be done is being done.

: Is the Minister trying to imply that his life is in danger?

: If the Deputy is trying to say that we are running a second-rate or third-rate hospital at the Curragh Camp. I would reject that.

: Could the Minister say that he does not believe this man's life to be in danger?

: I believe that everything possible is being done for this man despite what the Deputy is suggesting in his question.

: Is the Minister sure that he is getting the best possible care?

: Certainly.

: Time will tell.
