Vol. 307 No. 6

Written Answers . - Chaff-Cutting Machines Act .

165.

asked the Minister for Justice the grade of Garda officer now corresponding to constable in section 6 of the Chaff-Cutting Machines (Accidents) Act, 1897, and the steps normally taken to enforce the farm safety laws.

: In accordance with the provisions of section 19 of the Garda Síochána Act, 1924, statutory powers formally vested in constables are now vested in members of the Garda Síochána. However, the Act of 1897 referred to in the question appears to related to machinery of a type not now in use.

Apart from that Act, I do not know what farm safety laws the Deputy has in mind. There are regulations, made under the Road Traffic Acts by the Minister for the Environment, regarding the incorporation of a safety frame on tractors, including farm tractors, that are used in a public place. Enforcement of these regulations is a matter for the Garda Síochána in the normal course of their duty.
