asked the Taoiseach the approximate value of exports of agricultural produce to each member state of the EEC in 1977, with separate figures for Northern Ireland, as revealed in Consolidated Trade Statistics, or otherwise.

asked the Taoiseach the approximate value of imports of agricultural produce from each member state of the EEC in 1977, with separate figures for Northern Ireland, as revealed in Consolidated Trade Statistics, or otherwise.

: Comparable data for imports and exports are compiled according to the "standard international trade classification" of the United Nations. In this classification section 0, "food and live animals" while it covers processed foodstuffs", approximates closest to "agricultural produce". The following table shows the value of imports and exports under this heading for the year 1977.

For national purposes data are compiled for total "agricultural exports" under a more restricted definition, as set out in Appendix 2 of the Second Programme for Economic Expansion p. 301. The value of agricultural exports to EEC countries, according to this definition, was £757 million in 1977. Corresponding data are not compiled for imports.
