Written Answers . - Redundant Agricultural Employees .

asked the Minister for Labour the approximate number of agricultural employees who became redundant in each year from 1973 to date, having regard to information available under (a) the Redundancy Acts and (b) other sources (if any).

: As regards (a), the numbers of redundancies of agricultural employees notified to my Department as qualified under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1973, in each year from 1973 to date are as follows: 1973, 311; 1974, 323; 1975, 370; 1976, 379; 1977, 309; 1st Quarter 1978, 86.

As regards (b), reliable statistics on this matter are not available to the Minister from other sources.

Note: The Redundancy Payments Acts do not apply where the employer is the father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, stepfather, stepmother, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, stepson, stepdaughter, brother, sister, halfbrother or halfsister of the employee, where the employee is a member of the employer's household, and the employment is related to a farm on which both employer and employee reside.
