Vol. 307 No. 13

Written Answers . - Inner-city Dublin Proposals .

213.

asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development if he will outline any proposals which the Government may have for dealing with the major social and economic problem areas of inner-city Dublin; and if there are specific proposals for this area.

: The Government accept the gravity of the economic and social problems in the inner-city Dublin area as evidenced by such factors as its unacceptably high level of unemployment, low educational participation rates, inadequate housing and high rates of vandalism. For this reason, they consider it essential that a comprehensive and co-ordinated development strategy be applied to resolving these problems.

Comprehensive proposals, for submission to the Government, are therefore being formulated at departmental level at present to deal with these problems of the inner-city area and the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be possible to be more specific about these at this stage.
