asked the Minister for Health if he will set out in detail the plans he has for the provision of better health facilities for the people of Roscommon town and the surrounding areas; the present stage of development of these plans; and when he expects that they will be finalised.

: I indicated the position regarding the provision of a community care headquarters and a welfare home at Roscommon town in my replies to Questions Nos. 157 and 158 on 28 June 1978.

The plans for general hospital development in the Western Health Board area provides for the federation, for a trial period, of the County Hospital, Roscommon, and Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. Negotiations between the parties concerned regarding the arrangements for the federation have concluded, except in the case of maternity services. The 1 July 1978 has been fixed as the date for the commencement of the federation.
