asked the Minister for Agriculture if any of the fruit or vegetables to be covered by the agreed measures to strengthen the market organisation for Mediterranean products are also grown here; the specific measures to be adopted; and if he sought to have such measures applied to any products within Ireland.

: The measures which have been adopted to improve structures and marketing in the fresh and processed fruit and vegetable sectors will apply throughout the Community. These measures in the main provide for: (i) more extensive aid which member states may grant to producers' organisations; (ii) stricter application of controls on imports into the Community of certain sensitive products (e.g. tomatoes, apples, cucumbers) to maintain stability on Community markets; (iii) lifting of the ban on member states granting national aids for replanting apple and pear orchards; (iv) production aids for certain processed products (tomato products, prunes and peaches).
