Vol. 307 No. 14

Written Answers . - Consumer Protection Bill .

65.

andMr. O'Toole asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy why he has not reintroduced a revised Consumer Protection Bill in this session, as indicated in the reply to Question No. 21 of 8 December 1977.

: I indicated in reply to the Deputies' question of 8 December 1977 that I considered it tactically preferable to concentrate first on the Consumer Information Bill, and as soon as the Consumer Information Bill was enacted I would undertake the revision of the Consumer Protection Bill which required redrafting in a number of important respects.

Some of the provisions which have had to be reconsidered are of a complex legal nature. Substantial progress has been made with these revisions and I expect that the Bill will be published and circulated to Deputies during the recess.
