asked the Minister for Finance (a) the number of working married women who have applied for separate assessment to income tax under the terms of the 1978 Finance Act; and (b) the percentage they represent of the estimated number of working married women entitled to claim separate assessment and circularised to this effect by the Revenue Commissioners earlier this year.

Six thousand, eight hundred and fifteen married women applied for separate assessment to Income Tax for the year 197879 representing 9.2 per cent of the married women circularised by the Revenue Commissioners earlier this year.
