asked the Minister for Justice the strength of the Garda station at Dundrum, County Dublin, on 1 October 1968 and on 1 October 1978; the approximate population of the area covered by this Garda station on each of the dates in question; and if the strength of the station is due to be increased in the near future.

The strength of Dundrum Garda Station on 1 October, 1978 was one inspector, ten sergeants and 37 gardaí as compared with three sergeants and 19 gardaí on 1 October, 1968. The population served by the station on 1 October, 1968 was approximately 28,000 and the population on 1 October, 1978 was estimated at between 45,000 and 50,000.

There is one vacancy for a garda in Dundrum at present which will be filled as soon as possible and the police needs of the area will be further considered according as the additional manpower being recruited becomes available for assignment to the various centres.
