Vol. 308 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin CPO.

497.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is proposed to sanction Dublin Corporation's proposals for the compulsory purchase order in respect of Portland Place, North Circular Road, Dublin 1; and if he is aware that the delay at present being experienced is putting the possibility of retaining a community in this area very much in jeopardy.

The Dublin Corporation Sherrard Street-Portland Place Area Compulsory Purchase Order, 1972, was confirmed on 10 December 1975, and Dublin Corporation were notified accordingly on 16 December 1975.

On the 7 June last, I approved in principle the corporation's proposals for building 82 new houses and restoring or rebuilding 12 existing houses on the site. I understand from the corporation that working drawings for this scheme are being prepared and that it is their intention to invite tenders when the contract documents have been completed. House plans, which were submitted to me last week, were approved within the week, subject to reconsideration of certain features of the plans which had already been discussed by my technical advisers with the corporation's chief housing architect.
