As the degree of severity among asthma sufferers varies to such an extent it is difficult to give an accurate estimate of the cost of supplying drugs free of charge. However, assuming an average drug cost of £2 per week for 60,000 persons suffering from asthma who are not covered by medical cards, the total annual cost would be about £6 million.
