Vol. 308 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Law Reform Commission.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the present staffing arrangements for the Law Reform Commission are adequate.

The authorised staffing for the Law Reform Commission is:—

3 Research counsellors,

1 Legal assistant to the president of the commission,

1 Secretary,

1 Clerical officer,

3 Clerical assistants.

and all these posts are filled.

The authorised staffing is in accord with the request of the commission I am satisfied that it is adequate for the work being undertaken by the commission.

If one reads these reports one realises that they are the result of very meticulous work but it seems to be very slow because of the general process of consideration, international references and so on. If the Minister offered to increase the staff would that be likely to speed up the production of the work of the commission which is of such importance at the present time?

That is a separate question.

I have no indication that it would speed up the work and I assume from the fact that the present staffing is in accordance with the request of the commission, that they take the view that it would not speed up the work.
