Vol. 308 No. 3

Written Answers. - IFO Chairman's Statement.

482.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will comment on the statement of the chairman of the IFO transmitted on an RTE programme on 26 September 1978 to the effect that two members of the Government had, when in Opposition, offered financial and legal aid for the taking of legal proceedings against the previous Government.

I am informed that in the course of a private meeting between the chairman and secretary of the Irish Fishermen's Organisation and the Minister for Health and Social Welfare and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in their personal capacities as Opposition Deputies, a discussion took place as to how the organisation might obtain legal assistance in having certain constitutional issues in regard to Irish fishery limits decided by the Irish courts.
