Vol. 308 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Office in Mayo.

13.

asked the Minister for the Public Service whether it is intended to move any Government Department or Office to East Mayo; and, if not, if he will give consideration to this suggestion.

The Government favour the decentralisation of Government offices from Dublin. The possibility of further decentralisation is at present under review and the position of East Mayo will be borne in mind.

Can the Minister give me an idea of what Departments are at present under scrutiny with regard to decentralisation of any section of them and where these Departments might be re-located?

A programme has been prepared and will be before the Government in the near future. The likely location for such decentralisation will be decided by the Government then.

When exactly will the report become available? If the Minister says "in the near future" I should like to know when.

We are pressing ahead; in the very near future.

In the immediate future?

The Minister tells me that East Mayo may figure in any proposals he may have for decentralisation—

East Mayo is a large area. Would the Deputy like to recommend certain towns or certain areas in those towns?

Of course I would.

If he wishes he may do so.

I will in due course.
