Vol. 308 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Sewerage Scheme.

357.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding approval for proposed sewerage scheme in Knockcroghery, County Roscommon; the estimated cost of this scheme; when the documents were submitted by Roscommon County Council; and if he is aware of the urgency in relation to this project, due to the serious pollution of the river flowing through the village.

Contract documents for this scheme, which is estimated to cost £60,000, were received in my Department on 18 July last. While I am aware of the reasons why the scheme is considered important locally the council's proposals for the scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the large programme of such schemes in progress or about to commence at present. It is not possible to say when approval will issue to the scheme contract documents for which are at present under consideration in my Department.
