Vol. 308 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Facilities.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum spent on harbour improvements at Dún Laoghaire harbour in 1977, and 1978 to date; and if he will give details of projected expenditure.

A sum of £445,000 was spent in 1977 on the upkeep of Dún Laoghaire harbour. Expenditure so far this year is £376,000 and the total outlay for the full year is expected to be about £581,000. The corresponding figure for 1979 is estimated to be £710,000. No expenditure of a capital or improvement nature was incurred at Dún Laoghaire in these years and none is envisaged for 1979.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will undertake an urgent review of the Dún Laoghaire harbour passenger terminal facilities, to ensure that there are adequate emergency facilities for passengers who are delayed on cross-channel sailings.

Consultations will shortly take place between British Rail, Bord Fáilte and the Commissioners of Public Works to examine what improvements, if any, can be made in the facilities for the travelling public at Dún Laoghaire harbour in the event of exceptional delay on cross-channel sailings.

In the process of these consultations, perhaps the local public representatives might be asked to participate, namely, Corporation of Dún Laoghaire, Dublin county councillors for the area and Deputies because in relation to recent events, all these representatives have received many complaints from the public from all over the country travelling from Dún Laoghaire.

I hope that the views of public representatives would be taken into consideration. This meeting is fixed for 26 October and it might be no harm if the local authorities were represented.
