Vol. 308 No. 5

Written Answers. - Wexford Housing Sites.

298.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the sale of housing sites by Wexford Corporation, comprising one-fifth of an acre, for £3,975 to private individuals; and if he is aware that these sites do not include footpaths, site fencing and walls.

No such proposal has been submitted to my Department by Wexford Corporation. However, the Housing Authorities (Borrowing and Management) Regulations, 1974 to 1978, require local authorities to sell sites for a price not less than the cost to the authority of the acquisition and development of the sites, less the value of any site subsidy payable.

Developed sites provided by local authorities do not, in general, include site fencing and walls as these are regarded as the purchaser's responsibility. Footpaths are generally not provided by the housing authority until building on the sites has been completed by the purchasers because of the danger of damage to these paths by heavy traffic during the construction stage.
