asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy why a public inquiry will not be held into the advisability of establishing a nuclear power station; if any further consultation will take place with bodies which have expressed reservation on the project; if he is aware that the Irish Medical Union have asked for an inquiry; and if he intends to issue a further statement setting out his position in full.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the previous Government, of which he was a member, gave approval in principle in November 1973 to the establishment of a nuclear power station. That decision has not been rescinded. However, as I have already stated, I propose to submit a memorandum to the Government shortly on all aspects of this issue and it would not therefore be appropriate for me to make any further statement at this stage.
