Vol. 308 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Application.

36.

asked the Minister for Social welfare why a person (details supplied) in County Meath has been refused unemployment assistance.

Following reinvestigation of the means of the person concerned, his weekly rate of means, derived from capital and self-employment, was increased from £5.20 to £15.20. This meant that his claim for unemployment assistance was disallowed.

He appealed against the decision disallowing his claim and an appeals officer has now re-assessed his means at £8.70 a week. This rate of means entitles him to unemployment assistance at the rate of £2.65 a week. This sum is the maximum rate of unemployment assistance payable in his case—£11.35 less his means assessment. All unemployment assistance due has now been paid.
