Vol. 308 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Company's Insurance Contributions.

61.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare, with reference to a company in Dublin (details supplied), if he will make a statement on the total amount owing by the company in insurance contributions; how much of this is already paid by the workers; the position of the workers, now unemployed, whose cards were not stamped; if he will give the number of workers involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The firm in question went into liquidation on 6 March 1978. The total amount of social insurance contributions due by the firm at that date was £51,610.10. Included in this figure is the sum of £20,496.78 deducted from the remuneration of the firm's employees as their share of the contributions. The number of employees in respect of whom contributions are due is 281. A demand for the amount outstanding recently issued to the liquidator and my Department is awaiting the outcome of the liquidation proceedings.

The rights under the Social Welfare Acts of the employees concerned are not adversely affected as the contributions due have been treated as paid. This ensures that in the event of a claim for benefit, payment will not be refused solely by reason of the failure of the firm to pay the contributions.
