Vol. 308 No. 9

Written Answers. - Old Age Pensioners.

464.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of non-contributory old age pensioners in the country; (1) the number who receive the maximum allowance; (2) the number who receive reduced allowances; and (3) the plans to increase the amounts allowed by the means test.

The total number of non-contributory old age pensioners at the latest date for which information is available is 134,482 of whom 117,427 receive the maximum rate and 17,055 receive reduced rates. The question of any modification of the statutory means limits in relation to old age pensions would be a matter for consideration in the context of the annual budget.
