Dáil Éireann debate -
Thursday, 2 Nov 1978

Vol. 309 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 4, 7, 5 and 6. It is proposed to take Nos. 5 and 6 together.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to raise on the adjournment of the House today the certification by the Minister for Education of Loughan House as an in-dustrial school under the 1908 Childrens Act.

I will communicate with the Deputy during the day.

I ask the Taoiseach whether it is his intention to allow the House to debate the statement yesterday that it was the intention to cut Government spending next year.

The Deputy has plenty of opportunities.

The Taoiseach's statement is a confirmation of recent speeches by members of the cabinet and I thought it appropriate that the Taoiseach should permit the House to discuss it.

The Deputy can make speeches. He has the freedom of the press and of speech at any times he likes.

He has not much freedom in this House.

(Interruptions).

Order, please.

With your permission, a Ceann Comhairle, I propose to raise on the adjournment the request of the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy to the oil companies to reduce their prices in view of the reduction of the value of the dollar and the colossal profits accruing to the oil companies, to ensure that the Irish consumer will benefit.

I will communicate with the Deputy
