Vol. 309 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Waterford Educational Facilities.

533.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the rapid rise in population in the Ballygunner/Blenheim/Williamstown area of County Waterford, he is aware of the need to provide extensive new educational facilities, both at the primary and post-primary level; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department are aware that the Ballygunner/Blenheim/Williamstown area of County Waterford is developing and that additional national school facilities will be required there in the future. The form this accommodation will eventually take, that is to say whether the existing school at Ballygunner can be satisfactorily extended or whether a completely new school should be provided, will depend, however, on the size of the housing development which will be undertaken. It would be premature to make any forecast at this stage.

It is expected that the existing post-primary schools in Waterford will be able to cater for the needs of the area during the next few years. Further accommodation will be provided as required.
