Vol. 309 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Film Industry Legislation.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if the preparation of a film Bill is now completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am at present in the course of finalising legislative proposals for the development of the film industry in Ireland. All going well, I expect to be in a position to introduce the legislation in question in the near future.

Does that mean in this session or is it unlikely to be in this session?

It is unlikely to be in this session. It will probably be in the next session. A great many discussions have taken place with the interested parties. There were some delays because some personnel—not Department personnel—were not available, personnel who wanted to come and discuss the matter with the Department. It looks as if the legislation will be available early.

Would the Minister of State agree it would be helpful if the Private Member's Bill were discussed prior to the introduction of this legislation?

That is not relevant.

Does the Government intend to make time available?

That is a matter for the Taoiseach through the Whips.
