Vol. 309 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nurses Commission of Inquiry.

410.

asked the Minister for Health if it is intended to establish a commission of inquiry or a review body to inquire into the many grievances concerning pay and conditions of work of nurses throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

411.

asked the Minister for Health if he will accede to the request of the Irish Nurses' Organisation that a commission of inquiry be established to determine the principles upon which the pay and conditions of work of the nursing profession can be related to other employment in the public and private sector, which require comparable standards in areas of (1) educational requirements on recruitment, (2) training and final qualification, (3) responsibility, and (4) professional proficiency; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 410 and 411 together. In response to an inquiry from the Irish Nurses' Organisation, I am arranging to meet them at an early date to discuss this matter.
