Vol. 309 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Dublin Harbours.

424.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when the engineering report in relation to Balbriggan harbour, County Dublin, will be prepared; the steps that are being taken to provide him with a copy of this report without any further delay; when work will be put in hand; and the nature of any such work to provide the much needed improvements for this harbour.

I am informed that the Office of Public Works hope to carry out a survey of Balbriggan harbour before the end of November 1978 and to submit their report to my Department in January 1979.

Until this report has been received and examined in my Department I cannot say what works, if any, in the fisheries interest will be approved for a State grant or when work will be put in hands.

I might add that this harbour is under the control of the Dublin Port and Docks Board.

425.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when it is anticipated that the boring survey necessary to prepare an estimate of the cost of works for Skerries harbour, County Dublin, will be carried out; if he is taking any steps to see that this work will be undertaken; if so, when it is anticipated that such work will commence; and the length of time which it will take.

I am informed that the Office of Public Works are at present considering tenders for the boring survey at Skerries and that if the outcome is satisfactory they will place a contract for that work at an early date. They also state that, given favourable weather conditions, the survey work will take six to eight weeks to complete.
