Vol. 309 No. 5

Written Answers. - Kerry Road Workers.

472.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that at a recent meeting of the Kerry County Council an official stated that the shortage of money was responsible for the lay-off of road workers and, if so, if he will make additional moneys available so that employment can be maintained.

I am not aware of any such statement having been made. I have allocated road grants totalling £1,516,000 this year to Kerry County Council, which represent an increase of 58 per cent over the level of allocations made to the council in 1977. Furthermore, the grant this year for local improvement schemes amounts to £199,000 compared to £168,000 in 1977.
