Vol. 309 No. 8

Written Answers. - Diseased Animals.

408.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if there is any provision for the compensation of owners of animals compulsorily slaughtered for having Johne's disease; and if there have been outbreaks of the disease.

Compensation in respect of animals compulsorily slaughtered because of Johne's disease is provided for in Article 10 of the Johne's Disease Order, 1955 (S.I. No. 86 of 1955).

The number of animals in which the disease was reported to my Department and confirmed in recent years is as follows: 1973 Nil; 1974 Nil; 1975 Nil; 1976 1; 1977 4; 1978 1 (to date).
