Vol. 309 No. 8

Written Answers. - Assaults on Children.

450.

asked the Minister for Education if he will take steps to ensure that young school children are made aware of the dangers to them of assaults from adults, bearing in mind the recent increase in the incidence of such assaults and the necessity to take every precaution to ensure that such children are made aware of these dangers.

The duty of ensuring that young children are made aware of the dangers of assaults from adults is primarily a matter for parents.

The Rules for National Schools requests teachers to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of pupils. The publicity given by the media to the recent increase in such incidents together with the warning and advice given by Gardai should, in itself, serve as a warning to teachers, parents and pupils of these dangers.
