Vol. 310 No. 1

Written Answers. - South County Dublin Garda Reorganisation.

352.

asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, to reorganise the Garda in the south County Dublin area to provide a main centre at Blackrock and to make Bray into an operational centre; and if he will explain the consequences of such reorganisation for the policing of the area.

The Government have recently appointed an extra chief superintendent and two extra superintendents of the Garda Siochána to serve in a new Garda division and district which it is proposed to set up in the Dublin Metropolitan Area on 5 December. The new division, to be known as the Eastern Division, with headquarters at Dún Laoghaire, will cover Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock and Bray and their environs and the new district headquarters will be located at Blackrock. The present status of Bray as a district headquarters will remain unchanged but it will be transferred from the Southern Division to the new Eastern Division.

The establishment of the new division and district will reduce the workload of the divisional and district officers in the Dublin metropolitan area. In addition, extra manpower will be assigned to Dún Laoghaire and Blackrock to take account of the upgrading of both stations.
