Vol. 310 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Galway Mine Workers.

305.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the unemployment assistance or unemployment benefit the workers employed at Tynagh mines, County Galway, were receiving until recently.

Unemployment assistance or unemployment benefit is not payable to the employees of Irish Base Metals Limited, Tynagh, County Galway, as it has been held by a deciding officer that they lost their employment by reason of a stoppage of work which was due to a trade dispute and are thus disqualified for receiving payment under the statutory provisions governing such cases.

An appeals officer who heard appeals against this determination upheld the decision of the deciding officers. An appeals officer's decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence.
