227.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin will have his application for transfer of telephone attended to.

About mid-1979. This part of the estate in question was not sufficiently developed to allow for the necessary cabling work being done when cabling of nearby houses was carried out in October 1978.

228.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of sub-post offices in Mayo that are without telephone kiosks; and the proposals which exist to provide these necessary facilities immediately.

There are 44 such offices. It is planned to provide kiosks at eight of these centres, as follows: Clogher (Blacksod), Park, Garranard, Srah, Pulathomas, Kilsallagh, Manulla, Inisturk.

There are no plans at present to replace the existing telephone call office facilities with kiosks at the remaining 36 locations but the question whether the use likely to be made of a kiosk at any of these centres would be sufficient to warrant its provision is reviewed periodically.

229.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (1) the number of telephone connection applications outstanding to date, (ii) the number of telephones connected during 1978, (iii) the number expected to be connected in 1979, (iv) the number of applications received from old age pensioners living alone for telephone service, and who would qualify for the free rental scheme, and (v) the number of these applications that have been connected to date.

(i) 62,000, (ii) 36,000, (iii) 55,000, (iv) 5,300, (v) 800.
