The numbers of building society mortgages issued in 1975, 1976 and 1977 were 9,943, 12,862 and 13,358 respectively. It is estimated that in 1978 the number will be about 13,000. Information as to the percentage of mortgages in excess of £10,000 is not available in my Department.
