asked the Minister for Finance, in relation to the address by the Taoiseach to the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants on 1 November 1978, the amount of the repayment of Exchequer borrowings which will fall due in 1979, 1980 and 1981.

The repayments in the relevant years using current exchange rates are: 1979, £492 million; 1980, £504 million; 1981, £438 million.

In addition, short-term debts, mainly small savings with the Exchequer, of about £275 million are repayable virtually on demand while £120 million in Exchequer Bills is repayable on various dates up to three months ahead.

asked the Minister for Finance, in relation to the address by the Taoiseach to the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants on 1 November 1978, the proportion of each £1 of revenue collected in the year 1976, 1977 and 1978 (estimated) that is required for meeting interest payments due on Exchequer borrowings.

The proportions, per cent, in the relevant years are: 1976, 14.8 per cent; 1977, 15.9 per cent; 1978 (estimate), 16.9 per cent.
